Picnicking in and Around
Groton & Groton State Forest
The primary location for picnicking is Boulder Beach where there are individual picnic sites with tables and grills. Also, if the picnic shelters listed below are not reserved for a function, they may also be used. Boulder Beach and New Discovery have day use fees in their summer season. Picnic tables and facilities also exist within the camping areas of the State Parks. Most of the picnic shelters in the Forest were originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's.
Picnic tables are available as well as picnic shelters for reunions, group picnics, and other large gatherings. The shelters can be reserved up to eleven months prior to the date of use and there is a fee for the reservation. Otherwise they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The reservation numbers are shown within the write-ups below.
