Groton Recreation Committee

1. The meeting was called to order by temporary Chair Debra Tinkham, Selectboard member.

2. Corah Beardsley, Donna Babic, Kelly Walker, Lisa Hart, Debra Tinkham and Paul Berlejung were in attendance. Steve Hart had another commitment.

3. Corah Beardsley was elected permanent Chair.

4. Steve Hart was elected Secretary-Treasurer.

5. Draft Bylaws of the committee were distributed and reviewed. Motion was made to adopt them, seconded, discussed and were passed by voice vote.

6. Playground discussion. Lisa Hart mentioned that the Modern Woodmen had offered to match dollar for dollar up to $1,500 for play ground equipment that the committee could raise. The offer will expire at the end of May. It will cost about $6,000 to bring the playground below the bandstand up to where it is truly usable. People took names to call for donations toward the $1,500. Harry Chandler, Tree Warden, will show how the trees, shrubs and bamboo should be properly trimmed around the playground.

7. Music In The Park. “The Grateful Dads” will appear at the Thursday, June 21, 2007 event that will begin at 6:30 pm right after the United Methodist Church supper. Other dates are 28 June, 5 July, 12 July, 19 July and 26 July. Alan Greenleaf has agreed to play at one of these later dates and Paul Berlejung will contact him. “Cold Country” will be contacted by Donna Babic. “Gopher Broke” will be contacted by Kelly Walker.

8. Race. The race is set for 23 Sept 2007. A general discussion followed. Donna Babic will be the lead.

9. Halloween Party. Either Sunday, 28 October 2007 or Wednesday, 31 October 2007 is the date. Corah Beardsley will be the lead.

10. Ad Hoc Committee to Restart The Groton General Store became an official sub-committee of the Recreation Committee. Paul Berlejung is the lead.

11. Volksmarch. Set for 9:00 am until 2:00 pm from the Fall Foliage Festival site on 6 October 2007. Paul Berlejung is the lead.

12. Holiday (Christmas) event. Corah Beardsley will be the lead.

13. Fishing Derby. 19 May 2007 at 901 Seyon Pond Road. Don and Leslee _________ are the leads.

14. Event pages. Paul Berlejung will create some pages for the Committee and for the events that Dave Spencer can put on the GROTONVT.COM web page.

15. The meeting adjourned until the 1st Monday in November. It was agreed that members would keep in touch by personal visits, phone and e-mail until then. Meetings will be the 1st Monday in April and the 1st Monday in November at 7:00 pm at the Town Hall.
